Retinol and Sunscreen: The Powerhouse Anti-Aging Duo

Power of Retinol and Sunscreen: The Ultimate Anti-Aging Duo

Retinol is a potent ingredient that boosts skin cell turnover, so old skin cells are replaced with new ones faster. Although this helps to prevent acne and early indications of ageing, it creates photosensitivity in your skin. This means your skin will burn easily in sunlight. Sunscreen becomes indispensable in such a situation. So how exactly retinol and sunscreen can be the powerhouse against ageing? Read on to find out. How does Retinol work? Retinol, a type of retinoid and a popular skincare ingredient, initiates cell turnover. As a result, it promotes the production of new skin cells, reducing the appearance of fine lines, wrinkles, and uneven skin tone. It also enhances collagen production, essential for maintaining skin elasticity and firmness. Additionally, retinol can help regulate sebum production, which can be helpful for those with oily or acne-prone skin. Benefits of using retinol and sunscreen Prevents ageing Let's be honest- wrinkly skin is not on anyone's bucket list. So here's where this duo comes into the picture. Using retinol and sunscreen together can shield against ageing. This is because retinol boosts collagen production and treats the signs of ageing, while sunscreen protects you from UV radiation, one of the most prominent reasons for causing fine lines and wrinkles. Reduces skin sensitivity Retinol boosts cell turnover, a process where dead and dull skin cells are shed. It lets newer and healthy skin cells come to the skin's surface. However, new skin cells are exposed and not protected if you don't seal in with an effective sunscreen. To avoid your skin from burning, protect your skin with sunscreen and notice a drastic improvement in your skin sensitivity. Helps combat acne The combined benefits of retinol and niacinamide-containing sunscreen are truly impressive. This powerful duo helps control oil production and effectively treats and prevents acne. Niacinamide contains anti-inflammatory properties, which can help soothe inflammation. As a result, you can achieve clear and radiant skin by incorporating these two ingredients into your skincare routine. How Do You Incorporate Retinol Into Your Skincare Routine? Retinol can be tough to include in your beauty routine if you don't pick the right product and apply it at the right time. Retinol is highly potent and deeply penetrates the skin. As a result, because the component is new to your skin, your skin may need some time to adjust. If you want your skin to ease into retinol and avoid purging, use a gentle form of retinol with a low concentration. The Foxtale Vit-A-Lity Retinol night serum contains 0.15% encapsulated retinol, a modern innovation that only begins to act once an ingredient enclosed in a capsule has penetrated deeply into your skin. This doesn't cause any purging and yields benefit two times faster than regular retinol. As a beginner, apply retinol at night twice every week and then gradually increase its frequency once your skin gets adjusted to the product. Do note that all retinol formulations take around 10 to 12 weeks of consistent usage to show results on the skin. However, with the Foxtale retinol serum, you can expect to see changes within 8 weeks! Since retinol makes the skin sensitive to UV rays, it is best to use it at night. This is why daily use of sunscreen is necessary to improve protection, whether or not you have applied retinol. What Makes Foxtale’s Retinol Anti-Ageing Serum Stand Out? We know that Foxtale’s serum uses Encapsulated Retinol to work its magic. For those unaware – this innovative technology carries the Retinol molecules into the deepest layers of the skin to break open, minimizing episodes of flareups. Additionally, our Retinol Serum extends the benefits below to the skin. 1. Unlike other Retinol serums, Foxtale’s formula doesn’t dry out your skin. Infact, Betaine in this formula binds water molecules to the skin, ensuring long-lasting hydration. 2. Foxtale’s Retinol Serum contains Kokum Butter that administers multi-level moisturization, soothes inflammation, and makes your skin super soft. 3. The lightweight serum glides with friction and infuses easily into the skin. It doesn’t have a greasy or icky feel on application – not even in the slightest. Are You New To Retinol? Here Are Some Precautions To Take With The Help Of Sunscreen Although retinol offers many advantages, you can only make the most if you wear sunscreen. Furthermore, avoiding sunscreen when following a retinol-intensive skincare regimen can aggravate the negative effects. Therefore, when using retinol in your skincare routine, take the following precautions: Avoid prolonged sun exposure As retinol promotes photosensitivity, it is not surprising that this is the first precaution to take. Avoiding sun exposure the following day after applying retinol will protect you from heat burns. If you must go out in the sun, make sure to apply a high-protection sunscreen with an SPF of 50, a PA++++ rating. Use protective accessories like sunglasses, a hat, a scarf, or an umbrella for extra protection. Never forego sunscreen This is yet another obvious safety measure. If you use retinol in your skincare, there is no way you can overlook sunscreen. While retinol can significantly diminish fine lines and prevent them, sunlight causes photoaging. Skipping sunscreen means you are cancelling the benefits of retinol. On the other hand, sunscreen enhances the benefits of retinol by manifolds. Antioxidants for better sun protection for the win The best way to ensure sun protection is with a standard sunscreen with SPF 50, but what's even better is if your sunscreen has antioxidants like niacinamide. Niacinamide is a fantastic component for strengthening the skin barrier and enhancing skin texture. It provides a protective barrier against external radicals over the skin. As a primary ingredient in the Foxtale Mattifying Cover-Up sunscreen, it also assists in controlling the production of oil on your skin. Additionally, the ingredient makes the sunscreen's texture a dream to apply, blend, and absorb. It is truly a multi-tasker. All these together ensure retinol can have the maximum impact on your skin. Conclusion Think of it like this- just like how you ensure double protection by wearing a sweater and muffler on a cold winter day, similarly, you can claim your anti-ageing benefits by using sunscreen and retinol. Retinol and sunscreen complement each other well (as well as your skin). Therefore, you can reap the most benefits of retinol if you seal all its goodness with sunscreen. FAQs 1. Can you use sunscreen and retinol together? Yes, you can use sunscreen and retinol together. Using retinol serum at night is recommended to reduce the risk of skin becoming sensitive due to UV exposure. Follow up with sunscreen in the morning to ensure sun protection. 2. I accidentally skipped sunscreen after using retinol. Will it affect my skin? Yes, skipping sunscreen after using retinol can negatively impact your skin, including sunburn, skin damage and ageing. This is because retinol makes your newer skin cells more sensitive and prone to UV damage. Applying sunscreen can help combat sun damage and protect it. 3. When can I start using Retinol? You can start using Retinol in your 20s to reverse premature signs of ageing. 4. Can I use Retinol every night? Folks who are new to Retinol can start by using the ingredient once every week. If your skin responds well, use the efficacious ingredient on alternate days. 5. What should I use first, Retinol or sunscreen? Take a few pumps of Retinol and apply it with a light hand. Since Retinol supports the cell renewal process, we recommend using the anti-ageing ingredient in your nighttime routine. To prevent episodes of burns, tanning, and other sun-induced damage, apply a generous amount of sunscreen the following morning. 6. What should I avoid using with Retinol? Avoid ingredients like AHAs and BHAs with Retinol. 7. What is the correct way to use Retinol at night? Start by cleansing with Foxtale’s Hydrating Face Wash. It contains Sodium Hyaluronate and Red Algae that improve your skin’s water-holding capacity. Dab your skin dry and apply 2 to 3 pumps of Foxtale’s Retinol Serum. Maintain a light hand and be cautious around sensitive areas like the eyes and the mouth. After the serum infuses into the skin, apply a generous layer of moisturizer. You can try Foxtale’s Hydrating Moisturizer with Ceramides. The potent formula creates a protective barrier on the skin, sealing the treatment.

Everything you need to know about our Products!

We often incorporate new skincare products to our routine in order to address specific conditions. But we all know that right from getting a new skincare product till getting our skin to love it is exciting and at the same time an intimidating journey. There are a number of questions that run through our head regarding their usage, effectiveness, and so on. We at Foxtale are with you every step of the way (yes, until you fall in love with us!). This is why we've compiled a list of frequently asked questions about all of our products that you frequently ask us. Think of this as a product glossary; your one-stop destination for FAQs about Foxtale products. Foxtale Daily Duet Face Wash Product Description This dual-acting cleanser works as a make-up remover as well! Its hydrating formula cleanses your skin deeply without stripping it of its natural oils, leaving you with naturally glowing skin. Hero Ingredients & Benefits Sodium Hyaluronate - A Hyaluronic Acid derivative that can penetrate the topmost layer of your skin for deeper hydration. Red Algae Extract (Crispus Chondrus Extract) - It’s an incredible antioxidant that is rich in polysaccharides, peptides and fatty acids, equally great at cleansing and locking in moisture. Vitamin B5 (Panthenol) - Promotes faster healing of the skin resulting in a reduction in acne and blemishes over time. How To Use Massage a dollop onto dry skin and rinse to remove makeup. Then, lather it up with water, massage into the skin and rinse again to cleanse thoroughly. FAQs Why do I need to cleanse twice? For people that use make-up or the recommended amount of sunscreen in a day or several layers of serums - one cleanse is simply not enough to clean pores thoroughly. This is where a double cleanse comes handy the most! While your pores can’t open or close, they can work as wells that trap oil, grime and residue of sunscreen or make up. In order to prevent breaking out and other skin damage, it is essential to double cleanse. Does that mean this can’t be used as a regular cleanser? While the use for a double cleanse is only an added benefit, this cleanser provides all the benefits of a regular face wash and can be used simply to clean the skin. What is sodium hyaluronate? Why is it good for me? Sodium hyaluronate is a molecule that is derived from Hyaluronic acid. These molecules are so dense that they hydrate the uppermost layers of your skin easily, providing nourishment, conditioning and therefore a strengthened skin barrier over time. Who is this cleanser good for? We know you’ve heard this a thousand times before- but this cleanser really is designed to work on all skin types! It has clarifying ingredients that work gently but sincerely to remove all the day’s grime and the night’s leftover skincare from your skin. It also has hydrating properties that make sure your skin isn’t irritated. Is it safe to use during pregnancy / lactating mothers? This cleanser is made with skin-loving ingredients that are safe and suitable to use for all skin types, including pregnant and breastfeeding mothers. Foxtale Ceramide Supercream Moisturiser Product Description This ceramide-rich formulation protects your skin from environmental irritants while strengthening your skin barrier. Use this hydrating, healing moisturiser every day for nourished and healthy skin. Hero Ingredients & Benefits Sodium Hyaluronate Crosspolymer - It forms a dense layer over the skin’s surface, providing a deep nourishing effect. Ceramides AP, NP, EOP - They hold the skin together and form a protective layer to help prevent moisture loss and defend against environmental stressors. Hydrogenated Olive Oil Unsaponifiables - It’s said to be 4x more effective than Squalane in providing hydration and nourishment. How To Use Take the required amount of moisturiser on hands and dot it all over the face. Massage until it is completely absorbed in the skin. FAQs Is this moisturiser for specific skin types? This moisturiser has a lightweight yet hydrating formula that is suitable for all skin types. What are the key ingredients and how do they work? Ceramides NP, AP & EOP: Create a protective layer that not only locks in moisture but also prevents dryness and irritation. Sodium Hyaluronate: This modification of Hyaluronic Acid is synthesised to sit on the skin for longer, providing a hydrating and conditioning effect. Hydrogenated Olive Oil Unsaponifiables - This lipid derived from Olive Oil is extremely beneficial for dry and sensitive skin. It is believed to be 4x more effective than Squalane in providing hydration and nourishment, due to its broader molecule compatibility with skin. Can this also work as a night cream? Yes! This moisturiser provides ample hydration without feeling too heavy or thick, which makes it suitable for any time of day (or night)! Can this also work as an eye cream? Take a generous amount and apply under your eyes for the effect of an eye cream. How long will this moisturiser keep my skin hydrated? This moisturiser can be used day and night, for deep, and highly effective hydration that lasts anywhere from 8-12 hours. The only time you may need to reapply is when the weather is exceptionally dry! Does fragrance affect redness and irritation on my skin? No, unless you are very sensitive to another ingredient itself, all our fragrances are allergen free and used in quantities of less than 0.4%. Is it safe to use during pregnancy / lactating mothers? A moisturiser like this is made with safe skincare ingredients suitable to use during pregnancy / lactating mothers. Can milia be treated with it? Unfortunately, this cream can only be used as a hydrating and nourishing moisturiser for your under eyes but it cannot treat milia. Vitamin B3 (Niacinamide) - Improves skin texture and strengthens the barrier significantly to reduce hyperpigmentation and regulate oil production. Vitamin E (Tocopherol) - A powerful antioxidant that prevents free radical damage, protects skin from pollution and moisturises the skin. While it is recommended that you reapply it at least 2-3 times in a day, it really depends on your activity levels. Sweat and increased sun exposure can break down the actives making the sunscreen work much faster than when you are indoors and at a desk. This means the more your activity and exposure, the more your need to reapply sunscreen. Does this mean I don’t need sunscreen indoors? Light and therefore, harmful UV rays can penetrate glass just as easily as they can penetrate the ozone layer. This means you need sunscreen even when you are indoors. Additionally, blue light emitted by our screens can accelerate signs of skin damage and ageing just as much. That means it is just as essential even if you are sitting with your curtains drawn. Our sunscreen is formulated to fight both UVA/UVB rays and blue light emitted by screens. Is it safe to use during pregnancy / lactating mothers? Since it is a chemical sunscreen, some active ingredients may not be suitable and safe to use during pregnancy / lactating mothers. Is it sweat / waterproof? No, this sunscreen does not claim to be water resistant. Which skin type should it be used on? This dewy sunscreen has a lotion-like finish that leaves a dewy glow on the skin, making it perfect for normal to dry skin type only. How long does this sunscreen stay on my face? Chemical sunscreens like this one break down in sunlight and must be reapplied after every 3 hours if you're in direct sunlight. Can I use a product with benzoyl peroxide with this sunscreen? This sunscreen is safe to use with all active ingredients including benzoyl peroxide. Is it mineral or chemical based sunscreen? It is a chemical based sunscreen. Be it stress-related acne or hormonal breakouts, this spot corrector ensures visible reduction with 12 hours of application. Hero Ingredients & Benefits Salicylic Acid (BHA) - The best ingredient in your fight against acne, it unclogs pores and cleans them deeply, and decreases sebum production leading to fewer breakouts. Glycolic Acid (AHA) - This water-soluble acid gently exfoliates the surface to help remove dead skin and excess oil, reducing the mark and discolouration over time. Azelaic Acid - A gentle dicarboxylic acid that kills acne-causing bacteria and reduces irritation and refines skin surface and controls pigmentation by increasing the cell turnover. Vitamin B3 (Niacinamide) - This derivative of Vitamin B3 regulates oil, minimises redness, helps reduce the severity of acne, especially papules and pustules. How To Use Step 1: Cleanse your face with a face wash Step 2: Apply a dab of the gel to an active pimple Step 3: Wait for it to dry. Follow up with the rest of your routine. Can be used twice a day. FAQs Is it safe to use during pregnancy / lactating mothers? Since our Acne Spot Corrector contains actives like Salicylic acid, we do not recommend usage during pregnancy. Do check in with your dermatologist before using any active ingredients during pregnancy. Insufficient quantity To get the results through this acne gel, all you have to do is squeeze out a rice-sized amount of the product and use it on pimples. Wait for it to dry down completely and then apply other products as needed. Which type of acne is it suitable for? The acne spot corrector gel contains powerful actives that help clear dead skin cells and thoroughly clean your pores. Whether you have acne lesions caused by stress or hormones, this gel is here to deal with them all. It also heals small papules and pustules on the skin's surface. Overall, it penetrates deep into pores to fight acne-causing germs and prevent the formation of new ones. Misinterpretation as post acne spot corrector Since the acne gel contains glycolic acid and azelaic acid, it is often misunderstood as a post acne spot corrector, which is not far from the truth. When your active pimple has subsided but you continue to use it, it helps your pimple not leave a mark. Can I use it after chemical peels? It is advisable not to use it right after a chemical peel treatment, rather you can use it the day after. Which serums can I pair with acne gel? The acne spot corrector gel is a one-stop solution for a variety of skin problems such as random breakouts, huge open pores, excess oil, and so on. It is truly an all in one package. As a result, you do not need to apply further treatment based serums, but you can use hydrating and soothing serums to relax your skin and speed up the healing process. Can I use vitamin C and acne gel together? You can use the Foxtale C For Yourself Vitamin C serum along with the acne spot corrector gel. However, make sure to use the vitamin C serum under your moisturiser and the spot corrector over your moisturiser so that they have a barrier in between. Foxtale Vitamin C Serum Product Description This Vitamin C serum is designed to make your skin radiant and actively fight free radical damage. This product gives you results like glowing, bright skin, reduced scars and hyperpigmentation, that you can see, fast! Hero Ingredients & Benefits 15% L-Ascorbic Acid - The most potent form of Vitamin C that brightens skin, fights sun damage and reduces hyperpigmentation. 1% Vitamin E (Tocopherol) - A powerful antioxidant that prevents free radical damage and moisturizes the skin. Dicaprylyl Carbonate - An excellent emollient, it forms a non-greasy film, keeping germs and pollutants away. How To Use Step 1: Cleanse your face well. Step 2: Apply a dollop of Vit C serum over your face and neck. (Note- Start by using it only twice a week. And once your skin gets used to it, increase frequency to alternate nights.) Remember to top up with lots of sunscreen after the Vit C application. FAQs How do I store my Vit C Store your Vit C in a cool dry place. You can also put it in your refrigerator to delay preserve its potency. What can cause my Vit C to oxidize? Vitamin C naturally oxidizes when it comes in contact with air, heat and sunlight. Which is why this Vitamin C has been formulated in a creamy base to make it more stable and packaged in an airless pump bottle. My Vit C is not pumping out. What should I do? Step 1 – Flip the bottle upside down Step 2 – Shake the bottle a little. Step 3 – Pump it a few times till the serum dispenses from the bottle. Why is this Vit C in an airless pump? A regular pump causes air to enter the bottle, increasing the rate of oxidation. Airless pump means less need for preservatives in your skincare product. Airless pump helps you get to the very last drop. How do I know if my Vit C has oxidized? You notice a drastic change in colour. There is an unusual odour. The texture is different than the time of purchase. Can I use this at night? Yes, you can use this serum in your morning OR your night routine. Just make sure you are not using Benzoyl Peroxide, Retinol or AHAs/BHAs in the same routine. How do I use Vit C in my routine? If you are a Vit C beginner, use this serum after your face wash and before using a moisturizer. If you have sensitive skin, start by using it 3 times a week and then when your skin gets used to it, use it every day. What is L-Ascorbic acid? L-Ascorbic acid is the purest and most potent form of Vitamin C. While Vitamin C can be found in several forms, this, when applied topically, shows the most effective results. Why do I need Vitamin C? Vitamin C is the answer to all your skin’s queries about brightness, dark spots and sun damage. It is a tried and tested antioxidant that shows the best improvement in your complexion over time. Our users even found a reduction in fine lines and wrinkles over time, whereas others said the Vitamin C made them skip make-up! Can people be sensitive to Vitamin C? Sometimes! Due to its low pH, Vitamin C is highly acidic and can cause a slight tingling sensation for some. It subsides with time. However, if the irritation persists or you see any changes in your skin’s texture or appearance, stop using it immediately! Beginners with very sensitive skin are advised to use Vitamin C 2-3 times a week and build a tolerance, post which it shows the best results when used daily! Vitamin C fights free radical damage. Does using Vitamin C mean I can skip sunscreen? NOPE! Even though it is one of the strongest weapons in your arsenal when fighting sun damage, Vitamin C can make your skin sensitive to the sun. While our Vitamin C is formulated in a way that makes sun sensitivity less likely, it can only be combated fully with a broad spectrum sunscreen, which should be used right after! Will this make my skin tingle? If your skin isn’t used to Vitamin C, the higher concentration in our formula may make your skin tingle slightly. However, it should stop in a few seconds. If it continues to irritate your skin, please stop using it! Why is sunscreen necessary along with Vitamin C? Consider this combination the most effective way to fight free radicals and sun damage. While they work on their own, together, they only enhance each other’s benefits. This is the most sureshot way to see rapid results from both products! Foxtale Vit-A-Lity Retinol Night Serum Product Description Rediscover the youthful, healthy, firmer skin with the power of encapsulated retinol and peptides, moisturising and hydrating factors that make it gentler on the skin yet, ensure it delivers faster results. It’s capable of altering the behaviour of aged cells, improving collagen production to modify skin texture, boosting radiance, and treating the signs of ageing 2X faster compared to other Retinol serums. Palmitoyl glycine - It reduces wrinkles to reveal smooth, firm, and radiant skin by improving skin oxygenation and building skin proteins. Vitamin E - A powerful antioxidant, it moisturizes the skin and protects it from environmental stressors. Betaine -A multi-benefit ingredient, it softens the skin texture, hydrates the skin, and reduces inflammation Allantoin -It is a moisturizing agent that soothes the skin, decreases itching along with helping shed dead skin cells. How To Use Step 1: Cleanse your face at night and follow up with a moisturizer. Step 2: Apply a pea-sized amount of the night serum gently to face and neck. (Note- Start by using it only twice a week. And once your skin gets used to it, increase frequency to alternate nights.) Remember to top up with lots of sunscreen the next morning. FAQs Is it safe to use during pregnancy / lactating mothers? No over-the-counter retinol product is safe to use during pregnancy / lactating mothers. As a result, even the encapsulated retinol is not suitable. We do recommend checking in with your dermatologist on pregnancy-related skincare. What is the minimum age limit to start using retinol? The ideal/minimum age to begin utilising retinol is 25 years old. However, you can employ the serum if you feel that your skin's suppleness isn't at its finest or if you start to see wrinkles before the age of 25. Can I use it daily? If you want to make full use of the benefits that retinol has to offer, you can use it daily or even on alternate nights. However, if you’re afraid of the possible irritation and discomfort, you’re not alone. Using the retinol serum daily is a lot of work but the only guideline you need to abide by is to always wear sunscreen and avoid overdoing its quantity (a pea size amount is enough for face and neck). Will it treat hormonal acne? A typical retinol serum may or may not treat hormonal acne, but the foxtale retinol night serum combines the power of encapsulated retinol, palmitoyl glycine, vitamin E, and other ingredients that act on the outermost layer of the skin to remove dead skin cells and oil from pores. This can aid in the prevention of hormonal acne. Which skin types is it suitable for? This serum is your solution for various skin concerns; it can treat fine lines, promote collagen production, brighten and smooth the skin, lighten hyperpigmentation, and control acne. It has a lightweight texture that absorbs into the skin in just a few minutes, making it oily-skin friendly. It contains betaine, allantoin, and vitamin E that keeps the skin well-moisturized, making it ideal for dry, mature, and sensitive skin as well. Overall, it suits all skin types. Will this treat melasma and eczema? This serum contains encapsulated retinol, a gentle formula that is approved for the treatment of acne as well as pigmentation problems such as melasma or hyperpigmentation without a prescription. However, retinol without a prescription should be avoided in people with eczema since it might create flare-ups. Will it reduce open pores? This retinol serum is capable of doing all good things and two of them are: It stimulates skin cell turnover and helps to clear pores. As a result, it minimizes pore size and keeps them clean by removing impurities that’s the cause for their enlarged look. Does it build collagen? This retinol serum is a fantastic way to address your skin’s collagen loss and stimulate its production. Additionally, it makes wrinkles and fine lines less noticeable, making your skin look younger and plumper. Does it cause purging till it gets adjusted to the skin? Our retinol night serum is carefully formulated with 0.15% encapsulated retinol, peptides, and other moisturizing ingredients, making it extremely easy for your skin to get adjusted to it without any purging. We’re proud to call it a sensitive skin friendly retinol serum!

Understanding Retinol Purging; Causes, Effects, And How To Control It

Retinol, a type of Vitamin A, is touted as the holy grail of anti-ageing. Its topical application ensures healthy cellular renewal and boosts Collagen production to soften fine lines, wrinkles, laugh creases, crow’s feet, and more. A normal reaction to enhanced cellular turnover, purging shouldn’t discourage you from using Retinol. However, there are certain preventative measures and tips to alleviate these symptoms – that make your experience with Retinol a whole lot better. Scroll ahead to learn more. But before we get to everything purging, let’s refresh our basics on Retinol. Retinol And Its Benefits Retinol is popular for its anti-ageing benefits, but that is not all. If used in the right manner, Retinol works to 1. Prevent clogged pores 2. Minimizes pores size 3. Regulate sebum production 4. Kill acne-causing bacteria 5. Reduce acne 6. Improve skin texture and tone What Is Retinol Purging? Retinol accelerates the skin's cell turnover, and it can bring underlying acne to the surface more rapidly than it would naturally. You may notice an initial increase in acne, inflammation or dryness a.k.a. purging when you start using Retinol due to this reason. However, it's important to note that this is often a temporary side effect that can improve over time as your skin adjusts to the Retinol. What Does Retinol Purging Look Like? Retinol purging manifests in different forms in different individuals. Rare first time-Retinol users may experience - 1. Dry skin: Due to enhanced cellular turnover, dead cells may rise to the dermis – leading to dryness and flakiness. 2. Redness and inflammation: Expedited cell renewal can make new skin look red and inflamed. 3. Uneven texture and bumps: First-time Retinol users may also experience pimples, blackheads, whiteheads in bands. How Long Does Retinol Purging Last? The duration of purging differs from person to person. Most individuals experience signs of purging for 4 to 6 weeks from the first use. If your symptoms last longer than 8 weeks, we recommend consulting with a board-certified dermatologist. How To Avoid Retinol Purging And Breakouts? 1. Introduce it slowly in your routine: You can use the serum once or twice a week to get your skin used to this skincare hero. Then, once your skin has adjusted well to the product, you can gradually increase the usage to every alternate night. 2. Use a lower concentration of Retinol: A higher concentration of Retinol = faster results? That's not the case. A higher concentration of Retinol can be harsh on sensitive skin and escalate the possibility of skin purging. You can use a Retinol serum containing a lower concentration of Retinol. Foxtale's Retinol Serum contains 0.15% encapsulated Retinol, a process wherein retinol penetrates deeper into the skin cells to deliver the best benefits without causing any purging! Encapsulated Retinol boosts Collagen production, provides excellent anti-ageing results and makes your skin radiant! 3. Look for soothing ingredients: Using a Retinol serum containing soothing ingredients like Allantoin and Kokum butter causes fewer chances of your skin reacting to Retinol. Allantoin and Kokum butter provide a soothing effect on the skin and treat inflammation. In addition, the presence of Betaine helps soften the skin texture and hydrate it. 4. Always follow up with a sunscreen While you're aware that Retinol accelerates cell turnover, did you know that newer skin cells are at threat of exposure to the sun's UV rays? Always layer your skin with sunscreen to avoid the risk of skin sensitivity. Can I Keep Using Retinol After Purging? Purging is a relatively normal reaction to introducing Retinol in your skincare routine – so it's okay to continue using the ingredient. Here are some non-negotiables that will curb the discomfort or flare-ups 1. Use a hydrating cleanser: Prep your skin for Retinol with a hydrating, non-drying cleanser. Steer clear of ingredients like SLS or alcohol that dehydrate the skin, weaken the barrier and add to the dryness possibly caused by Retinol. 2. Layer active ingredients smartly: We recommend not going overboard with active ingredients. Case in point, if you are using Retinol in your nighttime skincare routine, opt for the Vitamin C Serum in the morning to avoid irritation or inflammation. 3. Moisturize always: Without moisturization, all your efforts for younger-looking skin will be futile. A potent moisturizer creates a barrier on the dermis, sealing in the Retinol molecules and hydration for best results. Additionally, slathering a generous amount of moisturizer alleviates any accidental flare-ups caused by Retinol. 4. Try sandwich method: This method involves using retinol between two layers of moisturizer. This tip will be most suitable if you're new to retinol or have sensitive skin. It doesn't make your skin prone to irritation and provides ample pampering. You Should Discontinue Retinol After Purging If 1. You have excessive redness or inflammation on the skin 2. You experience peeling skin or burning sensation that refuses to budge 3. The purging last for 6+ weeks 4. Your dermatologist asks you to discontinue Retinol with immediate effect Is There A Retinol Product That Minimizes Purging?
